The Government of Mizoram has taken a significant step forward by fully authorizing the Mizoram Remote Sensing Application Centre (MIRSAC) to oversee all geospatial-related initiatives and works within the state!
This move builds upon MIRSAC’s previous designation as the Nodal Agency and Apex Organization for Remote Sensing & Geographic Information System (RS & GIS) services in Mizoram (vide the Mizoram Gazette Extra Ordinary, Vol XXXVII, Issue No. 361). Further, MIRSAC has already been designated as an agency to prepare official maps of districts, subdivisions, rural development blocks, and Mizoram Legislative Assembly Constituencies (vide No. A. 6011/20/2019-GAD).
With this new authorization, MIRSAC is now empowered to manage all geospatial works to warrant complete control over geographic data, mapping, and related services. This decision ensures more efficient data management to avoid duplication and unnecessary outsourcing of geospatial-related projects, and also streamlining access to extensive RS & GIS services for various government departments and organizations. The primary objective of this centralized approach is to strengthen planning and development activities across the state, and to guarantee that only accurate geographic data is used in key projects. At the same time, this will also reduce costs of the projects by preventing the purchase of external data that is already available at MIRSAC.
This directive not only strengthens governance and development efforts in Mizoram but also marks a major milestone for MIRSAC. It also reinforces the growing importance of MIRSAC’s role as a trusted authority in geospatial technology. It further empowers the organization to contribute to the progress of the state through the effective use of state-of-the-art geospatial technologies.
