The Mizoram Remote Sensing Application Centre (MIRSAC) and the North Eastern Space Applications Centre (NESAC), sponsored by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), jointly organized the 3rd National Space Day Celebration on August 19, 2026, at the DC Hall in Serchhip.
Hosted by R. Malsawmtluanga, Scientist (MIRSAC), the inaugural session opened with the National Anthem. The event celebrated the historic legacy of the Chandrayaan-3 mission, commemorating India’s achievement as the first nation to soft-land near the lunar south pole.
Pu F. Lalramchuana, Member Secretary & Chief Scientific Officer, Directorate of Science & Technology, delivered the welcome address following the formal felicitation of dignitaries. Dr. Rocky Pebam (NESAC) presented a report detailing the scope of National Space Day events across the region. Technical talks included insights on space technology applications by Pu K. Lalrammuana (Former CSO, MIRSAC) and an address on the Chandrayaan mission by Dr. Renuka Agarwal, Scientist ‘SG’ (URSC/ISRO). Additionally, student representative K. Vanlalhmangaihi shared her experience from the ISRO NE SPARK 2025 program.
The Chief Guest, Prof. Lalnilawma, Hon’ble Minister, Govt. of Mizoram, addressed the gathering and presented citations and cash prizes to the top three winning schools of the morning quiz competition. Following a vote of thanks by Pi Hmingthanpuii, Principal Scientist (MIRSAC).
Scientists held an interactive session where students had the opportunity to directly engage with the scientist and ask questions about space exploration and related careers.
The celebration served as an important platform for students and the general public to learn about the significant contributions of India’s space program and its relevance to their daily lives. The presence of senior scientists and a prominent government official highlighted the importance of space science for the region’s development.
