Aizawl 15th August, 2025
Mizoram Remote Sensing Application Centre (MIRSAC) has been conferred with the Chief Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration 2025 under the Organization Category for its pioneering achievements through the Space-based Support for Integrated Development of Horticulture (SSIDH) project. The award was formally presented by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Mizoram, Pu Lalduhawma during the 79th Independence Day celebration at Lammual, Aizawl, on 15th August 2025.
This prestigious recognition highlights the Government of Mizoram’s acceptance of geospatial technology as a crucial tool for grassroots planning and implementation of science-based findings. The SSIDH project has demonstrated how remote sensing, GIS modelling, and renewable energy integration can be applied to strengthen the horticulture sector. By identifying suitable crop zones and proposed sites for solar-powered cold storage, the project directly contributes to improving productivity, reducing post-harvest losses, and uplifting the livelihoods of farmers while safeguarding fragile natural ecosystems.
Aligned with key Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the initiative reflects a non-disruptive, scalable, and replicable model for sustainable development. The award reaffirms MIRSAC’s role as a leader in promoting technology-driven, farmer-focused solutions that integrate scientific innovation with practical, long-term benefits for the people of Mizoram.
